DANCING CONTRADICTION

Robertson Arès gallery

Montreal, Canada. 2021

In Dancing Contradiction, I want to talk about the opposition between fragility and strength which is more striking than ever at this moment in our lives. On the one hand, we are probably in the most stressful times of our existence; the future becomes blurry, we lose our bearings, we separate, we isolate ourselves, we lose loved ones. But on the other hand, we surprise ourselves to be much more resilient than we thought; we overcome things we would not have believed ourselves capable of, we review our priorities, we rethink our life choices, we change gradually, we find our comfort in less grandiose things and in a slower pace.

I also want to address how being frozen in time and distanced from others gives us more space to reflect on our convictions, which can create a growing division between people. I also find it fascinating to see how human being is contradictory and how it is extremely difficult to have a total coherence between our words and our actions. One of my main worries is the impact of this isolation and this stress on our mental health since when we feel overwhelmed and it is more then time to seek help, professional services are less and less accessible and the waiting lists are getting longer. I want, with this exhibition, to underline these flagrant contradictions by proposing frank, assumed messages which lead to reflection on delicate materials such as porcelain, flowers and velvet.
