READ THE ROOM is an exhibition about perception and the theatricality of the social. Through her typographic interventions, artist Marie-Claude Marquis observes human behavior in all its contradictions. She explores our need for authenticity in a world of performance, and our desire to be unique while seeking validation.
By reassembling or adorning porcelain pieces with jewelry, she reflects on our efforts to be noticed, our disguises, and our longing for attention. Stepping away from the collective noise of the city, the artist gains perspective and rediscovers a fresh, quieter gaze, still attentive to human dynamics. With humor, much like the visitor moving through the exhibition, she reads the room.
